Abstract

-Abstract-
The purpose of this study were twofold. One is to develope and examine the validity
and reliability of self-developed dental satisfaction questonnaire. The other is to analyze
the related factors of dental treatment satisfaction. Data for this analysis were gathered
by 1,155 randomly selected samples who had visited division of dental infirmary of
Kyungpook National University Hospital from March 2, 1998 to August 31, 1998. Among
the final mailed sample of 910,303 was returned (33.3£¥). The main questionnaire
consisted of 45 items and each item was constructed using a five-likert response format.
The questionnaire was pretested (Cronbach's alpha=0.9577) before mailing and all
collected samples were analyzed using the SAS 6.04. The obtained results were as
follows :
1. The reliability and validity of this self-developed dental satisfaction questionnaire was
favorable. The Cronbach's alpha value of this questionnaire was 0.9359, and the
Cronbach's alpha values of subscale were 0.92 (recongnition and trustworthiness), 0.83
(kindness), 0.77 (time), 0.75(cost) and 0.75(environment and facility).
2. The satisfaction ratio of all respondents was distrbuted from 24.84( minimum) to
88.67 (maximum) and the average ratio was 55.21¡¾0.51. The overall satisfaction mean
scores of five subscales were 63.84¡¾0.69(kindness factor), 62.38¡¾0.68 (recognition and
trustworthiness factor), 55.31¡¾0.74 (time factor), 51.51¡¾0.61 (environment and facility
factor) and 43.00¡¾0.69 (cost factor). All resppondents were generally satisfied with
kindness of dental personnel and other staffs and recognition of hospital and
trustworthiness of treatment, but the cost of treatment was most dissatisfaction factor in
this survey.
3. The major factors which explain the recognition of hospital and trustworthiness of
treatment were kindness and cost factors. The other four subscales accounted for 49£¥
(R2=0.4868) of the variation in recoginition and trustworthiness factor as a
result from multiple regression analysis.
